if you load fuel and then have to dump, the process to revalidate the rocket become WAY harder
same reason that the longer the rocket sits on the pad, the worse the outlook for it becomes

It was not immediately clear when Boeing and rocket-builder United Launch Alliance might be able to make another attempt, but engineers will first have to figure out what caused an oxygen relief valve in the rocket’s Centaur upper stage to “chatter” during the late stages of fueling and what might be required to fix it. If the valve has to be replaced, ULA might have to roll the rocket back to its processing facility for repairs.
So, I looked this up a bit
this is a semi-new varient of the Atlas 5 rocket
the N22 varient is designed for these crewed launches
and it *can* be mated vertically
N22 is non-reusable, but it's been launched twice so far
2019, it blew up (unmanned test)
2022, it had an in-space anomaly and couldn't do an ISS dock (unmanned test)
idk how they were OK'd to do a manned flight
when both prior flights failed
"Atlas 5" as a name has been around since the 60's or w/e
but this is a completely new platform
ULA doing a vertical mate is within spec (apparently can do either)
but doing a live test of that, now, is retarded
