I'm putting my tech venting in bot chat, because why the fuck not

after ~5 hours of trying to recover a raid volume, I managed to do it

I'm sure of a few things in this world, and one of them is:

FUCK

QNAP

I'd rather still rely on floppy disks for storage, then ever touch another one of their products again in my life

I'm done with them, completely done

all of their self-checks are worthless

all of their services crash each other

and you end up with cascading failures

and you have to hope some process you had no idea existed won't take priority over a file system integrity check

everything about them is shit

and their whole MO is to just funnel people having problems into calling tech support

and having them remote in to fix something

which I'm sure as fuck not going to do

all their documentation is years out of date, and all of their tools/applications crash more often then they work

and I'll be honest

I'm not even sure how I got this mounted correctly again

I had some old scheme documents backed-up thankfully

and I rebuilt all their symlinks

I hated them before for being terrible for 100 other reasons

but I have zero faith in any of their products at this point

general is tech chat spooky

I think the default settings for WinSCP are why it's so shit

I installed it on a new computer today

and was getting ass data rates

disabled a bunch of dumb options, and it went back to what it whould have been

it has better key management then Filezilla imo
