I like betamon because no matter what you choose to go to it will always be a decently strong decently tanky magic guy with some variation between those two facets

I went for a the snake dragon first but devolved him back to his mohawk toad stage

he has an int-piercing special attack

which is basically magic damage on a multiplier that partially ignores the magic resist

anything with a special attack that pierces def or int is inherently broken for the first game

in the second game they got smart and anything that's intended to be remotely tanky has a Pen Block in its items or is just outright given resistance to piercing effects

I'd aim to pick up a data type soon, or a free type for safer coverage
