I think the directors cut made me like S1, first time watching it I didn't feel the same

I think season 2 had none of the problems I had with season 1

The worst part of S1 are all the dumb village scenes and the doggos

S2 has a lot of dumb village scenes

I hated that entire exchange

that's like half an episode

(it also does not help that I accidentally watched those episodes out of order and watched the episode where felt is revealed to be the princess before the episode before that where they resolve the whole dog thing)

(so that probably made my enjoyment of that part worse)

It kind of pseudo worked skipping that episode so I did not notice

until after I had watched it

S2 Emilia is bad

so it balances out

S1 Emilia is also bad

S1 Emelia is barely a character

not counting Episode 1

she's in barely any of the episodes

people talk about her a lot

I love that re:zero does not standard length episodes

and variable length episodes

I think the show would be much worse if they had to cram it into neat 24 minute blocks
