I find it so funny and fascinated how Desslock in Star Blazers is written as the guy who sees the heroes as worthy opponents, because of the corner they wrote him in. At first it's a case of, this guy has so many pawns that he doesn't give a shit when the good guys win (perks of being a galactic emperor). But he also has no freaking clue about what the good guys' true objective is, so he can't be written as the guy who gets angry whenever the heroes keep getting away with it. Since he doesn't know what the humans are getting away with.
