I fully expected the 86 five man squad to actually die when they went beyond the borders and for the story to follow the Alba woman. The show really subverted my expectations and then they kept doing fakeout deaths because they cant afford to kill off any of the main cast lol

After the first fakeout, I just accepted the main cast was not dying

first half of the story was Lena's character arc and saving Shin's brother, second half of the story was shin being saved (from his mental suffering)

also iirc from spooky telling me, they changed the structure so much from the light novels, they combined the lena and 86 parts in season 1, those were originally different light novels
