I tend to value characters a lot for my enjoyment of things
from what i remember and how current season is going, i think this a kinda loose list of the shows i liked most this year. I watched a lot more that were not worth mentioning though.
1. Frieren
2. Mushoku tensei 2 part 2, Apothecary diaries
3. Girls band cry, MakeIne
4. Slime s3, Shangri La, Alya, Spice and Wolf, GGO,
5. Gushing over magic girls, Dungeon people, BA, Demon slayer, dungeon meshi, Voice actor radio, MagiLumiere.
I judge characters and character design in anime harshly

I care that the characters fit into the story of the world and not that the characters make the story up as they go
I completely forgot about Gun Gale, despite currently watching it
I think you just like a more specific type of anime then I do, whereas I just tend to like more things Spark Dragon, that is what I am getting for this
You want those grand narrative story shows, which I also agree are great
Oh I’ve been watching wind breakers with a friend. It’s kinda low to mid tier
I know nothing about that, except based on what I heard it seemed like something I would not like
so I did not watch it

yep, that's what I think its going for too
it's "fun" in that it's mostly just a story of the MC fucking around and doing cool stuff
he's not wildly overpowered, there's no overarching story really, no real stakes, the supporting characters kind of just come and go
it's just Sunraku fucking around in a very open-ended setting
I like it in that it's simple and fun, but it doesn't really compete with story-driven stuff to me
Spooky describes what I like better

Yeah it’s kinda just rinse and repeat with fighting and same tropes.
Yeah, it seemed like battle shonen slop to me when we watched the trailers
and I saw normies hyping it up as the next best thing, so I figured that was correct
My buddy was obsessed with watching it and catching the new episodes, then the last few I think he realized it was kinda lame
That and the name of it is literally a fart
I think if I had to put my perspective on anime into words, I appreciate when a show accomplishes exactly what it set out to do and does it well. I think all of my favourite shows fall under that category
Replying to Dialga #god_of_time imo SLF is good but it goes off on too many side arcs and ignores too many already established interesting characters (edited)
This is also one reason I don’t like it, you get a new person and then nothing about them for a season, then it’s like oh hey remember me?
interspecies reviewers is a flawless product given what it set out to do

Gundams versus aliens basically
Gotta remember, I only started watching anime in 2016
so old things that are long (lots of seasons), I probably have not watched
old being pre 2010
I think a muv-luv show was out in 2016
there are modern ones coming out
but I'd have to watch all of them
I do not start in the middle of a franchise
Then again most of it is in manga
Most of the muv-luv doesn’t connect I think?
Which is why I will never watch gundam
I am not watching 40 years of old anime even if I was curious about a few of the more modern ones
Each show is kinda set in its own world
Scarlet Witch was good, but not *that* good lol
I am curious about that one, and the one that gundam people who hate 86 say is just 86 but better

iron blooded orphans, thats the one people compare to 86
I liked iron blood orphans but didn’t watch scarlet witch
even though 86 has a few fuckups in the 2nd season
I appreciated season 2 more on rewatch, but I agree that it is the weaker of the two seasons
season 1 was a complete story effectively though, so its kind of hard to continue that
Code Geass (while not really a mech show) is my favorite mech show

but it's up there with FMA on "every time I re-watch it I have a completely different perspective"
I do not think I've watched too many mecha shows
I can only think of 86 and metallic rougue and franxx
2 of which are actual garbage
Spooky is an akagi enjoyer 100%
I don't rewatch shows really, but of the couple I have those stand out

Akagi and Lupin I lump together
and never picked them up because of the artstyle
