I don't think they do that good of a job of being food-focused (nor are they trying to be imo)
as a theming thing, having them cook a meal every week is a fun, but it's not really the point of the story
this episode they literally just cook leaves, but the episode is about how they all see each other and that Laios' character has some depth to it
That's also why I didn't like the manga the first time I read it, I went in expecting a food/cooking story, when that's not what Dungeon Meshi really is
yeah, makes sense
yeah, will be interesting how they choose to adapt the rest, whether they lean more or less into the adventuring meals and cooking

the LN almost outright tells you with Kazuma saying she looks familiar and her scar
it's the best written autistic character I've ever seen
