it fits with the whole theme of new magic in all its forms, often falling to the most trivial fundamental magic

I also like that they don't take grievous injuries super seriously, it makes the fights cool when characters can get impaled

i think the injuries caused by sense's replica not being lethal can be explained by info given by the show other than just healing magic, but yeah

since all the mages know, they can just heal it

I like that we literally never saw complicated combat magic because frieren does not believe in using non basic magic for combat

i think thats because she doesnt think anyone in current era is worth using more complex magic against

cuz she uses the good stuff on her own clone the entire fight

I think its less of that, and more so that with exception of a few special cases, basic combat and defence magic at a high level is better than complicated magic at a moderate level

I think it comes down to how you read the themes of the show

that golem for example, was a spell she learned back with Himmel in an E3 flashback

why she doesn't bust it out all the time, I don't think you'll get a definite answer for

but it feels appropriate for her character

A lot of her arc is "subverting what most mages do" such as concealing her mana

so her not using flashy spells fits with that

Considering this arc taught us basically every mage only uses flashy personalized spells

to the point where they comment on Fern fighting like an old person

"I feel like I'm fighting my grandmother"

is a such a good line
