even if it fucks over a minority of them
it's all arbitrary though Rusp, we need to pick and age and stick to it
I hate that I had to forge documents to get a PayPal as a kid
I hate that it's incredibly hard to do things at 17
I went off to college at 17
so I got hit with a lot of age-gating
simple things, like having a dormroom
some % of people do though
lol
I just would prefer, if things that didn't need to be age-gated
weren't
like hotel rooms
it's fucked that I still can't rent a hotel room in some states
depending on the state, it's sometimes 24 as the cuttof
unless you get a parental note
it shouldn't be age-gated
there are things that should be
why though
what are you protecting
from what though?
you still have to provide an ID to rent a room
so it soft-restricts it to 16 and up
unless you're a strange person who gets an underage ID
it's the opposite Gent, if you think age of majority should matter, have a clear reason for things you're gating behind it
tattoos, drugs, alcohol, enlisting, voting, etc
clear reason why they're age gated
concert attendence, public events, hotels, financial services, gas stations, websites etc
don't make sense
a lot of gas stations restrict the stores to 18+ only
to "cut down on theft"
I see them a lot in PA
not so much in Virginia
I think it errodes the seriousness of all age-gated things
if everything is age gated
I think it has a bigger effect than you think Rusp
but that's strictly an opinion
