I think it was a technical limitation, for devices that need to be assigned their own subnet address
But the secondary/tertiary networks were always running legacy protocols, and could only selectively handle it
Hope most schools are getting better
And God forbid they start removing wired internet connections

College wifi is good if youre up at 4am
Nobody on the connection so you get some pretty nice speeds
