Fae is short for faerie
That doesn’t make it right
A fae is a spirit whom the elves descend from, you see the goddess of nature had children, and those children were the fae, the fae then appeared to grow closer to the humans, and those fae were turned into elves, who kept their world views other than humanity, some elves decided to keep their bloodline clean as well. Other faes however, went to blaze, a god who kept striking his hammer in the earth, forging endlessly, faes usually don't like metals and dark caves which lack the natural world which they seek (i.e. forests, or rivers) but these fae did, and said god turned them into what we know as dwarves
