i used lots of heavy textbooks in high school

My experience in HS was that the school issued textbooks

Clear backpacks are stupid though

So you could usually leave them in the class/locker

As well as armed guards on school property

unless you need to do homework from them

And metal detectors like some people say we should have

And a ton of schools have them already

my school had them, they broke up fights

Well I have a school police officer

Some schools just don't arm them

the fact that you americans actually need those baffles me tbh

But that's it, some people have suggested straight up guys with assault rifles

I think some of the proposals are dumb

there is no such thing as an assault rifle

I don't think schools need guards at every door, brandishing long guns

Man, I'm appalled whenever I hear what my brothers HS has turned into

There's no freedom anymore

Everything's locked down, and the school has implemented a million "security" measures to take away any semblance of freedom

You get written up if you're on the wrong floor in-between classes

No socializing or anything allowed

That's because the school is overfunded

the one thing schools are kinda good for

social skills

They have too much money, and need to spend it

And ironically the easiest thing to spend it on is flashy tech

school allowed me to absorb math and science without making any effort

My principal is a pushover who wants everyone to like him so he does little concerning discipline that I've seen

But I don't get into trouble

It goes HS principal ---> School board ---> State legislature

They embezzle millions along the way as well

I do not lie to people, but I do not tell people everything. If you ask I will either tell you the truth or tell you that I would prefer not to say
