It is a non cannon crossover, so all playing the games will give you is an appreciation for some of the characters
I have no idea if any of the fates/awakening characters will even be in it

looking at the list
There is chrom, lucinas father
from awakening
tharja, also awakening
tiki, awakening, and the first two games in japan if I recall
I am seeing zero fates characters, but a lot of awakening

according to the fire emblem wiki

I doubt it is truly important to play it, but if you really want to know some of the characters you will be seeing if you get that game, play awakening
