Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me
Swords are bad
But they're objectively worse in almost all cases
Shotguns base damage goes up by two with each tier. Swords only one
Swords are less accurate than a shotgun
Swords don't get the ammo type equitable item effect
Very situational based on the enemy
