Fate is about (sometimes) Holy Grail Wars, where (sometimes) 7 masters summon (sometimes) their own servant. These servants then fight and the winner gets a wish from the holy grail (sometimes)

The general idea of fate is these characters from past or stories being interacted with with masters and other plot lines

No holy grail war is ever "normal"

Fate however is part of a bigger universe known as type-moon, but I wont get into that
