Being pregnant would be utter torture for me, not only for my own reasons, but for the pain and complications that would come with obtaining an illegal abortion. First of all, I have hereditary health conditions that I don't want to pass on. Secondly, the medications I take for it could likely harm the fetus and cause irreparable damage.

But practical reasons aside, the biggest issue for me is that I never ever want to be pregnant. It terrifies me. If I could find a doctor that would actually listen to me and let me get my tubes tied, I would, but most doctors won't allow it. I am doing everything in my power to avoid ever becoming pregnant, but few things are 100%

I do not want to carry or deliver. Ever. Not only does the U.S. have one of the highest maternal death rates in the developed world, but I am very aware that society stops seeing me as my own person if I become pregnant. Complete strangers feel they have a right to touch me, judge me, give unsolicited commentary or try to dictate what I can or cannot do.

I have struggled with persistent suicidal tendencies for my entire life, along with an anxiety disorder. Being forced to carry a pregnancy to term is the most terrifying and traumatic thing I can think of, all because someone else's religion kept me from terminating it as soon as I can.

If I were to become pregnant and I was prevented from obtaining an abortion by law, I would go out of state or out of the country to get one. If that was not possible, I would do everything I could to terminate the pregnancy myself. If none of that works out, there is a very good chance I will kill myself. I am far from the only one who feels this way. If you don't like abortions, then don't have one. Do not make that decision for me.
