Purpose: This is a specific type of analytical writing that focuses on one or more aspects of the rhetorical situation, including the writer’s purpose, the audience’s needs and interests, sources used in the document and the context. They can also involve an assessment of the argument used in the document. It examines how a writer presents a claim, connects to readers, frames the issues, and supports the claim with evidence and reasons. Rhetorical analysis helps the reader to understand the origins, qualities, significance, or potential impact of a subject. (Keep in mind - this is similar to what we did with the epi-pen and junk food articles).
