Honestly if you need the epic money to fund your game, fine. But going full anti-gamer like this is not worth it
It's the same problem a lot of kickstarter games initially had though
if you get your money up front, when it releases and you barely sell any new copies
was all that time even worth it
and Mark Kern on twitter had a decent take that a lot of the polish for games which distinguishes the good from the bad happens near the end of the game dev cycle, and since this dev had all their money given to them by epic, it is likely that even if the game comes out, it will not be as good as it would have been since they have no reason to care about polish now
not to say it would have been good regardless
I really don't believe most games on Epic are selling well at all
both from the numbers I've seen, and the general sentiment from investors
not that epic cares about game sells. I'm sure they have a vast well of fortnite money to burn just for fun
even if you make a "profit" on 2-3 years of work
if you're back to square one after that, with no real fan support or anything
