Do people never consider the environmental cost?

This seems to be a common theme in my life. People tell me to buy something to solve increasingly more minor problems in my life. They insinuate that I am cheap or stupid for not doing so, because I can afford it. They then turn around and ridicule climate change deniers and profess great worry about the environment. I just don't get the disconnect: do they not realize their actions have more costs than the upfront monetary cost?

AC units are particularly horrible for the environment and encouraging the capitalist culture of "simply buy a solution for every inconvenience" is even worse. We can only blame large companies for this crisis so much if we keep buying their shit. I'm not trying to call you out it's just frustrating that seemingly every commenter in this thread is saying the exact same shit with no thought towards the consequences of their actions.
