When are they going to stop doing numbers for their consoles
Rusp
I'll watch it in a minute, I missed it earlier
I hate how both Sony and Microsoft are patting themselves on the back, for giving people puny last-gen SSDs
Which will just force them to pony up $150 more to get a minimum amount of storage
The custom SSD inside uses a standard NVMe SSD, allowing for future upgrades, but you’ll still need an SSD that can meet Sony’s high-spec standards here — at least 5.5GB/s.This is a meaningless line
You don't rate drives with a single speed
I assume that's a random-read
and that number is also; to put it gently, not correct
I don't know if that's Sony's own number or what
but.... 5.5 GigaBytes a second.... just isn't right
They're quoting 800GB
though I bet ~500GB is accessible
which will fill up FAST
and if the only option for expandable storage is full replacement
it's going to be a cluster fuck
I can't get over that number though
5.5 GB/s
just.... isn't something
Processor will be about the same as the exBox's
both companies are quoting misleading numbers again though
microsoft at least confirmed it was a boost clock, which for AMD will cap out at 2 or 4 cores, depending on the architecture
Still probably comparable to a 3700
OK, I got to the meat of the video itself
5.5 isn't right
and I can't get over that
LOL
oh I got it
what a faggot
Fuck you Sony
it's across all 12 PCIe lanes
fuck off
they have an extra large bus for their NVMe
which means they're going to be proprietary SSDs
Gen 3, normally uses 4 or 6 lanes
so 5.5GB/s is really something closer to 1.8-2.0GB/s
that's more realistic
and those are peak speeds too
It's silly to get hung up on this... but 5.5 just isn't something that we can do yet, on a single drive
especially with last-gen interface technology
Look Sony
if you had a way, to make an honest to God 5.5GB/s NANDflash chip
you wouldn't be making consoles
you'd take over the fucking world
those are already out
my cpu is 7 nanometer
it's here
5nm is 2022, still won't be that fast
3.5GB/s isn't achievable without RAID either
NAND isn't fast enough
If this peaks above 2.0GB/s
I'll honestly give Sony a win
I actually really appreciate this presentation
despite shitting on the SSD segment
Mostly because I like this kind of stuff, and it's not all snake oil
It's the same problem Microsoft will have tbh
this console will need to be priced at $600 minimum
I'm glad they're considerably more powerful
but 4k and 8k will just waste that potential
The cool shit developers could do at 1080p
will be erased
while they chase CUTTING EDGE 8K GRAPHICS
and we'll be stuck with games that still run in the 40-60FPS range
Since they're not going with Nvidea architecture
