I found an appearance changing station on the starting island that you should be able to access before even going to the first story island, if either of you are interested i can tell you where it is

its funny because the game tells you you can't change your appearance until later but you can probably do it as soon as you wake up from the boat crash

here's a tip for DQB2 that might be useful: you can craft with stuff that is in chests, you don't have to keep everything in your inventory
