No Pika, they still charge for it
don't actually charge $0.00
I don't like the idea of a franchise being open for just anyone to use
I think Disney should retain the right to soley monetize Mickey Mouse forever
But I think; if we wanted, we should be able to animate Mickey Mouse fucking Donald Duck
can you imagine the insane amount of shovelware that would pop up if anyone could make content under any currently popular IP
as long as we make no money off doing so
Okay, so what you want is stronger fair use such that it is free game to use anything so long as you do not make a profit
That's a better way to explain part of my view
yes Pika
I don't know how that relates to torrenting games though spooky
And I'm not sure why you say shovelware would be any worse if it was some shitty drawing of Mario, versus what it is now
Shovelware is shovelware
seems like a tangential topic
torrenting is inherently the reproduction of content, for no cost
except the old 3DS freeshop, that's the one place where I think it was legit stealing
See, I agree with you on the freedom to use IP, you lose me there. I think preventing people from mass reuploading content like that is a needed evil. I think if torrenting games became the norm the logical step to combat that is more scummy microtransaction monitization methods
Take music Pika
instead of games
Music piracy was the sinlge biggest source of P2P activity
for more than a decade
it's almost at zero now, despite being easier than ever
the profit is also higher than ever
Because they gave up after things like youtube replaced the need to torrent music
I don't think (maybe I'm wrong) that most people consume music on YouTube
Music videos, sure
a lot of music has billions of views
Pandora as well
Satellite Radio
niche streaming services too
All that shit contributes to why piracy is down all well. Having a ton of easy to use services disincentives piracy
People still buy CDs, still pay for streaming music, pay for downloads on Bandcamp, pay for merch, go to concerts
despite, piracy being easier than ever
and I promise you, it's not a morality thing
that's the opposite now though
with 10+ streaming services
piracy is ramping back up
Yeah exactly, it is a service problem that leads to piracy
if those services were less shit, it would not go up
anime is so widely pirated in the west because all the services are fucking garbage
they are not catering to how I want to consume that media
I don't want shitty 720p streaming from CR
or bad subs
yeah, I get that. They should absolutely not be shit
or no subs at all
which is a lot of the reason I have no issue with just watching anime elsewhere
I don;t want to wait 4 months for Netflix to tell my how whitey gets fucked by her black bull
but with games, steam is allaround a good serivce in my eyes
Which is why I buy a ton of shit on Steam
It doesn't mean I have an obligation to only use Steam though
