But seeing as this was easy to do with touch controls, I went ahead and farmed them

They spawn endlessly from the rocks
Just lock on to the water, and you'll see them
There are 2-3 over there

Since it seems to imbue you with great power, or whatever
No Gent, it's literally people wanting to use the little boy as a source of power
his "bloodline"
But it seems to require him being kept alive

The game's amazing
Even if it still has a couple of the Dark Soul games' problems
