Octopath is a good turn based JRPG, but it has some flaws. For having 8 characters, the characters don't really interact much and have no rhyme or reason to be traveling with each other. There's no real "overarching plot" either if you're looking for that, but each character does have their own story of 4 chapters, and it should take you 4-6 hours to do 4 chapters and if we assume the median of 5 hours, that's ATLEAST 40 hours of gameplay, that's not including sidequests, exploring and etc. The sidequests though, or some of them seem to be bare bones, the path actions sometimes are gimmicky and not rewarding either. The battle system is good though, but the game is very easy, to a point where it's kind of sad. There is a sort of class system, as each character has a class, but also can acquire a subjub from the other classes. The game is very pretty though and runs nice. The OST is also INCREDIBLE. I'd say if you're really into these types of games then spend the money, but if not then wait till christmas, though the game is out of stock everywhere right now, so christmas might not have many sales.

Assuming that you're planning on playing with all eight characters, you'll have access to four chapters for each of them. This means that there are a total of 32 chapters in Octopath Traveler.
