can you short hop with just the jump button?

i have jump on trigger and grab/shield on x and y

trigger jump makes short hops super easy
you just clip the edge of the button and it does it automatically
a lot of people have a trigger bound to jump for attack cancelling
and c-stick instant aerials basically require it
