my history professor spent like 2 hours ranting about how people saying slavery was the cause of the civil war

there was 1 instance of flipping parties that I have heard of and that was the guy legitimately changing his mind
now i didnt say that slavery was the only cause for the civil war, but it was a pretty significant part of it
Tackling the issue of whether it should be allowed for a state to secede from the union is really complicated
Frankly, more complicated than I'm able to handle
Conour, I'm not being pedantic, but I think that's missing the point
slavery was a huge fucking deal
and is to this day
yes, it was
where am i wrong in that statement
that doenst say that its the only reason bro lol
the entire statement
Hahaa
abe lincoln released the slaves as a war move to win the war, not because he wanted to
thats all i didnt read anything anyone said
goodbye
we care about such a small subset of slavery and focus on it to no end,
as if it is the greatest sin imaginable
when it's just how the world worked for hundreds and hundreds of years
how does bio keep managing to make already shitty convos worse
lol, he wanted to send them all to liberia
I just don't understand the position people take on the civil war
other than a "fuck the South" position, that liberals seem to take
the same liberals who think there are 5 inhabitable cities in America
I get that one
if you're an elitist prick
that's the only position I understand
so why did a war break out after secession? Thats what I care about more than the reason they left
because you can't let half of your country walk away
popular sovreignty is a meme
Lincoln SHOULD have waged war on us
Yes, that's the problem
i love how you always say us like you were there
Looking at it in the most bare bones sense, do you think it's okay if a section of your country believes their values aren't properly represented and wanted to self-govern?
I consider myself a Virginian, before an American
OK I couldn't remember who started the war itself. It was the South who attacked first at Sumter
Gent, I don't
I believe in strong, large, devolved states
I think federations work
No, I agree
fire what was i saying that was shitty
thinkon
I think the US should be as big as possible, and devolve as much power as they can ddown to the state level
America probably wouldn't be the world power it is today if we allowed them to secede
I almost missed the politics arguement
idk about state vs federal rights, but yeah I think stronger is better
the secessionists at least weren't utter retards like the ones in seattle
Ignoring all other details, the union would have to be the aggressor for this conflict
The Confederate States were an economically viable country, the same way Texas would be if they left today
should have gone the korea route of north and south north america
we're a strong nation when we're unified
I love the claims that Texas never officially gave up being a sovereign nation
all the retarded divisiveness which has been at the forefront of politics since 2014-ish
has done more damage to out national potential than any other event could have
Thank the Obama era political revolution for that
and modern politicians (Trump included) are so terrible at injecting the nuance needed to not play one side off the other
its the degradation of national values since near the 70s, 2014 is way too recent to blame.
if Obama wasn't a shill
and stayed true to his vision
we wouldn't be where we are today
if trump built his fucking wall then did nothing else
america woul dbe great again
Kappa
but appaK
he is building his wall and apparently he did nothing else in regards to corona and the riots
The GOP is in a worse state now than they were in 2016, and that's laughable
do you think social media has had a play in the division?
I love Trump, because he stands opposed to a class of people I think should be executed
that's the only reason I like the guy
social media is a symptom
I like trump because he is the funniest of the outcomes that you could have had that election
Trump needs to be a stepping stone
except maybe Jeb!
Not the last red president
can’t wait for trump to get re-elected then the GOP doesn’t put a good candidate out and biden will be president
when he’s in an even worse state
biden is going to die
a dead guy being elected will be a first
in the next 2-4 years
that is a non issue
I think Trump gets reelected, but the Republicans are lost without him
im still not sure of who i am voting for tbh
