So if you say it ends when the germs took over the western roman empire, it lasted just a bit longer as an empire than a republic. If you say it ends when the ottomans ended the byzantines, it lasted nearly 1500 years after it became an empire
The transition from a republic to an empire lasted like maybe 80 years at most though depending on how you like would measure that
if we are sayinh 27 BC then it would only be like 30 years
You could say it started with Sulla and all of that though, or even go back a bit further to when gaius marius reformed everything
