Well ,they're not extra per-say
they're in a server that doesn't need to encode though
now that I scrapped my docker box
I could use a second 1080 so i could experiment with how shit sli is still
I bought them for ~$150 each Max
But otherwise dont need gpus
which was too good of a deal to pass up
SLI is bad
Do the 1080s do nvlink, i dont remember
I think the TI cards might
1080TI 2080TI
The 1080 was honestly a pile of shit
Titans definately do
my 1080 has had a lot of power draw problems
but it's such a beast of a card
It cant run 4k and its overkill on 1440 and 1080
um... it can run 4k just fine
though, gaming at 4k is just dumb, period
Not in fps titles, it has frame buffer issues
Ray tracing is a scam
the Super cards are a scam
1440p is a meme that will never catch on
You can push about 55fps in most aaa titles with 4k on and a 1080 running overclocked
But man does it not like it
i can't stand
having 55 fps
60 or bust
I can't get over how so many games misreport their frame rate
or hitch constantly
"it's totally 60 FPS though"
Minecraft is the worst about that
200fps and noticeable stutter, kek
Locked 120
I need more ideas for computers to build
after my streaming server
I want to build something
I want to play with a new ryzen chip
NAS should be everyone's first secondary computer imo (not that that really counts)
I dont really have a use for NAS yet
in 5 years, I'd reccomend a docker host
but fuck Docker right now
coolest tech revolution, stymied by the same shit as always
Linux fags being Linux fags
Ive also never been good with nas stuff, im better on the hardware side not the software bits
most of them are pretty plug-and-play at this point
simple cli stuff i helpful, sure
or hell, even the overpriced off the shelf ones aren't terrible
I have an old laptop that ive converted into my makeshift game server and bot client machine
Should prob make a desktop instead
Its cooling is
Sketchy at best
If it was 2009 again, I'd have one of my boxes running gameservers
So few games that can benefit nowadays though
I want docker to succeed so bad
God do I
it's the future of server hosting
the idea, that everything can be a compartmented microservice
I just want something that can run a good multithreaded load for whenever people want modded mc servers
Because god are hosting companies expensive
If I was more into modded Minecraft, I'd probably be the same
Max is pretty dang good at that stuff though
so she can just be the Phijkchu MC server bitch
(Sorry to Leg and his server)
as i'm sitting next to a minecraft server Kappa
To run a decent atm3 pack which i did for a bit was like $30 a month on a server
this thing is constantly complaining about running seconds behind while new chunks are generating
I really hate linux
but it works
but every time i use it i have to google the right things to type
The biggest issue is
linux is awesome
so is Firefox?
and uh
ehst else can be shilled
