The results of the experiment, which was carried out at the University of Amsterdam, were published in Nature Communications on Saturday.

The team's main challenge was to produce a device that was easy to use but also safe, which would offer significant promise for preventing or reducing people's own injuries and deaths.

Using a modified version of the e-cigarette, they invented the EgoTape, which contains a mesh on the inside that captures cigarette smoke from the smoke cartridges, rather than using cigarette ash.
