Also Pika, I think my school did an orientation weekend for the freshman
First day on campus was Thursday or Friday, and classes started Monday
i had a welcome weekend, but orientation was during the summer
Are those different?
Maybe I'm forgetting, but what do you even do for orientation?
I know for undergrad they threw a big concert/rave every semester
But I don't remember anything...productive getting done
for orientation we learned school policies, curriculums, picked classes and explored campus
Aren't those tours?
there were some tours yes
I mean, I thought you did most of that when you toured campus as a high schooler
for the welcome weekend we took a class picture on the football field and had a block party with free food
it was friday and saturday
we did tours and group teambuilding exercises
yep, team building with people i never met again
I did not go after the first couple days because I quickly realized it was a waste of time
I had fun at mine, as best as I can remember
I know I snuck in and did them again as a sophomore/junior
there was only like, 1 mathphys person and I have never seen them again
so I think they dropped
i was bored out of my mind but i had to do it so i could register for classes
everyone else was buisness science
I know I could look it up, but does UWaterloo have a good graduation rate?
I know it's a selective school, so I imagine it does
I know a lot of people do not make it through physics and drop into general science
majoring in general science
Man, I'm slow today it would seem
physics is under physical science which is probably quite a bit lower than the 75.9 it is showing
since physical sciences also has some easier degrees
I'm surprised cs is that much lower than normal engineering
interesting how the Engineering grad rate is so high

optometry 100%
cs is prob out best program at this school
school of optometry is also very good
and the only one or one of two in canada iirc
very selective
i wonder how many competent CS grads you actually produce
selectivity doesn't mean you get people who can think right
CS programs are weird in general
just people who can memorize rules
being able to write code that can solve specific problem does not mean you wrote GOOD code to solve the problem
I know a good number of CS grads, most of them say the same thing,
That it's clear from day 1 who will be the top of the class, and who will scrape-by or wash-out
stackoverflow
unroll all of your loops
write everything in a single function
use for loops with a pass as a timer
most people just go straight into the workforce

so idk
Entry level pay for CS grads is shit, because most companies don't know what quality of coder they're getting
and they get jobs where they need to make things work, but not work well or innovate
Though CS has one of the higher 3-year out average salaries
iirc cs coops from my school make anywhere from minimum to 30 an hour typically depending on the job
Is Canada a country that always computes wages as a per hour rate?
I know that's a regional thing, differs country-to-country
i made 18 an hour for my internship that i literally sat in front of a computer watching TED talks every day because they never gave me any work
I mean, that's what I do
I use hourly
some might do yearly/monthly idk
I only ever see/hear people talk about annual pay
I think that's a very American thing
i make around $32 an hour but i'm salaried
Now that I think about it, my family also talks about it hourly
and other people I talk with
so it is likely the more common method here
I think a one or two dollar hourly difference looks insignificant, even though I know that it makes huge difference over time
It's one of those obvious things that I just brush over
Also depends on how many hours you work
monthly can be thousands more if you do 2 more hours a day than another person for the same hourly
Canada does a 40 hour workweek, right?
