Midway through the first season of Skeleton Knight. They are really inconsistant about the whisp(s) behind Ark's eyes. Sometimes the whisp is on his right eye, sometimes left. Sometimes there are two blue lights, and sometimes there are none.

I mostly remember character's eye colours when the series I'm watching won't shut up about it. Like Reuenthal's heterochromia, or in the musical for Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Reinhard's "Blue blue. Ice Blue" eyes I guess I also remember Sharingan.

2 differences between the books and the OVA for LOTGH: in the books alliance troops use mirror shields to deflect lasers. Which is why Schonkopf always calls his ax a "Tomahawk" since that's a one-handed axe. The other difference for Legend of the Galactic Heroes is that since the liquid metal shell is OVA original, what you get instead of speeder-bike jousting on the liquid metal, when Walter von Schonkopf goes out for exercise in the Fortress vs Fortress episode, you get WW1-style Death Star trench warfare.

Also Muller places a bomb on the outer walls.

At least this one (book 4) has my favourite line of foreshadowing in the final chapter. Though you can get that from watching DNT. Book 5 is kind of worth it for Bewcock's aide's backstory. I don't remember much else about future books except being disappointed in how they translated certain lines, including Dusty's catchphrase. Though they then fired that guy and lifted the quote from the Central-Anime subs.

Kempf Goes out like a legend of the galactic hero. After they blow up one of Geiersburg's engines, Kempf is still able to pilot the thing and starts to redirect Geiersburg, while suffering from a major impalement. Though you lose out on the shitshow where all of Kempf's men kill eachother evacuating, since in this version he orders his men to evacuate before crashing the fortresses together Sunglasses Yang. Oberstein's dog gets a spotlight episode. It really does justice to the final bit in book 4 in which Reinhard carresses his amulet. And I don't think the OVA does justice to this particular bit of amulet carressing. Maybe they didn't have the budget, or maybe they just didn't have the technology back then where the show makers couldn't imagine what it looks like for Reinhard to hold his amulet in this particular way.

You can complain about the bad translations or you can use it for headcanon fodder. Book 4 seems to imply that Erwin Josef is predisposed to marry Charlotte Phillis, admiral Alex Caselne's daughter. Since there are a lot of paragraphs that talk about Erwin Josef where Caselne's name shows up.
