You never bother shortening any of the other units other than bits and nats anyways, because you'd have to shorten all of them and they are almost never used anyways

I think that is just a weird coincidental thing where a bit of something already means something, so it kind of just worked out

I do not believe that is a good reason, since if we were int he weird trinary computing world where that was more useful, trits would still sound weird

bits makes sense to shorten because it both sounds good, and also that is the most common unit you would use (second most common being natural units or nats)

I also would not call them trits

In my courses, we just refer to them as trinary units

I gaurentee you there will be niche math edgecases where doing something like this is beneficial, but this does not seem like something that will beat out binary computations
