why is every protaganist a dragon nowadays
with the amount of lobbying, such a thing would never get passed, at least in the US
Businesses would hate it
really turn a combat into attrition
rolls for wounding, etc
although you can do some interesting tough beyond simple damage
its gonna be the average of your damage roll anyways so may as well just use that
Damage rolls aren't that necessary though
I do agree that rolls aren't the best way to handle things though
But what if the rat was secretly the rat god, and the blow just phased right through them...
too
and you got stuff like armor and what not
I mean, I'd disagree, considering how variable damage is, especially on the human body.
Well, that'd probably work really well on highly developed characters yeah
and always succeeding is actually not a bad way to go about it for more casual RP stuff
because, indeed, things have to fail, to go wrong, the players have to make their own characters fail, or else they always succeed, unless the DM makes some weird framework to have something succeed or not succeed
I mean, I know its possible that this kind of stuff can exist, but its definitely not new roleplayer friendly
So yeah, making content for "players new to roleplay" is actually incredibly difficult without a framework. They'd get lost, powergame, godmod, or just be uncertain of their capabilities or push beyond some invisible limits that is instead in the DM's brain about something working or not...
cooperative book writing is still a better idea
at this point with all this framework shit gone, you may as well abandon the idea of player characters entirely and write a book together.
Or, who the DM "thinks is better" than the other
Alternatively, you could try to let the person do it anyways, and suddenly its more of a judge on who has the best Roleplaying skills, and the ones who do are rewarded way too significantly over other players, creating resentment from other players who aren't as good.
"Try to befriend an enemy? Well, I'm not even gonna let you roll for it. For there are no dice. This enemy cannot be befriendeedd"
instead, I will restrict player freedom by taking away their ability to exist in a consistent universe, to become ultimate master over the roleplay as its God.
