Purple is royalty, the suns is just a symbolic way of saying "The sun never sets on Valerian" the cross is often seen as religous IRL but it is not, it is called the Central Cross. the center Emblem is the Emblem of the Dynasty

Well we start off with the empire of Ulkamar which reigned over most of the continent 1000-1454. It was overstretched militarily, Had among other things a food shortage due to manufactured famine(The royal family took most of it alongside the nobility) and massive civil unrest, in this upheaval we get the African Liberation Party. The earliest known predecessor of the current day PDRK. The liberation started small, with People’s Councils all across the country as a form of quiet rebellion and an attempt to bring order on a local level, with the councils making administrative decisions in place of the imperial government

In response the crown had the local authorities shut down the buildings the councils met within. So the council members alongside locals protested in the streets across the different cities where the councils had gathered. Eventually leading to a rovolution, to really get into what occurred, I must also mention that th Industrial Revolution has already occurred, in fact it occurred in 1210, where it started to kick off. Thanks to a valerian predecessor state finding old Roman steam engine designs and working off those to make early steam engines. By 1452 muskets existed, though so did some form of them as early as 1382. Ukatarn police and commoners smuggled in muskets from places like Mortimer(before it changed its name to Valerian) and New England. Using these weapons the Revolution of the State of African Liberation Party could be founded.
