It's different (but similar) to the old argument of low-level Assembly vs compilers

My only fallback on that is I doubt it will ever get cool updates if the guy making it doesn't even understand the code
I think it's pretty obvious when someone generates something, with no knowledge of what it is or how it works
which is why I prefer decomp/recomps made by pure human autism
that will become less obvious over time and all
since you know they will keep working on it
but we're to a point that I don't know anyone who codes for real, who isn't touching some sort of AI somewhere
that's not saying it's actually 0%
but it feels close
if you count latex as code, I turned off all the built in AI
no, I just get annoyed when the AI helper pops up every time I start typing
Most IDEs have some feature to "permanently disable AI" in them, for people who want to virtue signal
and our help desk at work has had to administratively disable that setting as something people can do, because of how many tickets they were getting along the lines of
"hey so, I perma disabled AI a few months ago, but I'd actually like to start using it now"
overleaf because I have to share my stuff sometimes
it used to, idk about now Leg
I think we're mostly intellij now, but Cursor/VSCode still gets use
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 it used to, idk about now Leg I think we're mostly intellij now, but Cursor/VSCode still gets use (edited)
well for some reason I started getting github copilot things in a jupyter notebook with that setting enabled
I'd just prefer if it was just a seperate window/tab I could interact with if I wanted to
the pop-up chatbot style is such a relic for boomers
I am your local boomer
Stay off my work area
no, I'm agreeing with you
every website that has one also makes me want to kill someone
when there's some Clippy style interrupt
versus (actual) AI-tools where its got its own segregated interaction area
oh, yeah

Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 and for the first time, I think there are more people calling people retarded for caring about AI code, than there are anti-AI people
glad this is happening. all the old arguments people had were ban, inconsistent with other values youd here the same people preach
and ecen if its happening, its definitely not happening thay fast. lots of lefty communities ars so anti ai, and like anti data center, or ludite takes can be defended ig. but the whole like throw someones head on a spike if they generate ai art or use ai to assist in coding was always ridiculous. for example ai taking jobs was always a bad argument marxistly
I feel like I respect actual ludite-ism
but most people are just anti specific corporations or hyper-specific things
it is weird that there is a political divide over AI, where once again the far Left is on their own fucking island
even all the cool selfhost trannycode stuff is pretty gatekeepy regarding AI
Bernie fucking Sanders is reasonable about AI
idk why its become political like it is
well, other than the CEOs behind Anthropic and OAI being so fucking hatable
If there is no more technological progress to make and no more winners to crown, than Communism is a rational system
