All of the chinese movies we've watched are also like that
Thank God they never made me read chinashit in school
I'd have shot my HS English teacher
I base my entire opinon of chinese storytelling on the movies spooky made us watch, to which I conclude that the chinese cannot tell stories
I've never read any of the Chinese "greats" but it's the same stories over and over again
not that they're all the same, sry
I just mean, a story will "feel" chinese for a bunch of different reasons
I love monkey man
we read a lot of non-chinese foreign books in school
and I remember our teacher warning us how hard it was going to be to keep names straight
Replying to Phijkchu_Pikachu #klombak I love monkey man
jttw is argubly the most unique and seperated from the common tropes
but legit, never had a problem, until I read some chinese shit
Russian, Sri-Lankan, Polish, all fine
china bug people though, miss me
I think the closest we have in the West is the Odyssey
it's one of the only widely shared non-biblical stories
like you said, Shakespere too
but there's a lack of Western myths or ancient history
because.... 200 year old nation lol
A lot of western stuff will pull from roman/greek mythos
that is western Pika
