I say this as someone who loves MT I think partially because the author is into the idea of time passing as Rudy grows up (which is more obvious in the novels), he writes downtime in which breaks up the pace of the story in a sorta weird way

I really like downtime in stories where the world feels like a character in its own right. It makes the setting feel lived in instead of just being a place where the plot happens.

idk if this is criticism or what, but MT is on the chekov side of writing, where characters/places/things are drawn upon time and time again, and I think a lot of fantasy (and anime in general) is more used to Shounen or monster-of-the-week sorta pacing, where the story progresses by introducing new things/characters and just sidelining those plot elements once they've been resolved in the moment, so the story can move onto the next thing

The author gets more explicit with the themes he's going for with the story as it goes on, but I think most of them are pretty obvious even now

which was also the entire point of the one robot anime from a few seasons ago that had the really good episode 0 then consistantly got worse each episode after that

I think some people think they have to engage with something when it's popular even when they hate it, so they just waste their time being mad instead of doing something better with their time

i also see some weird sect of Re;zero fanatics who love to advertise for re;zero while hating on MT for some reason?

If Re:Zero is so good, why arent there 50 new clones of it being written each week like MT?

i don't like re;zero but i dont feel the need to go tell re;zero fans their show is bad

Every Tales game needs mabo curry worked into the plot somehow. It can't just be a thing your characters learn to cook, it has to show up in dialogue. And if it doesn't get mentioned in the game's dialogue by a main character, it shows up in the prequel.

Ok pyrrhic but tales games arent a genre its all the same IP so it makes sense to have repeating things like that

I think its a good call, but the MT anime also doesn't spend almost any time explaining the magic/martial system in the world Rudeus gets a little bit from a book in S1, and the magic/sword masters will explain some things a little here and there

there is a very rigid system, that I think most anime-onlys will be surprised by some aspect of it at some point

at least rudy doesnt openly have a menu, levels, or unique named skills

if this rigid system actually justifies chant magic as a mechanic then its a great system

Started watching Li'l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers. It's another kids show where you don't realize how fucked up the premise is until you're an adult. A couple in the NT who own a service station, find a baby in a guitar case are convinced the kid is the illigitimate son of Elvis Presley. So they raise him up to be an Elvis Impersonator, and they won't let him go to school.

And it's not like his parents weren't Elvis impersonators before they started raising the kid.

Maybe it's because when I watched it I didn't watch it from the start, so I thought his parents weren't delusional. But watching it from the start this is the clearest case of nurture over nature, since the kid does not want to be an elvis impersonator, but his parents are forcing that life-style onto him.

up to episode 5. The show has been kinda mid. First genuine laugh from me came with this line: "You'll be interviewed on the highest rated current affairs show in the known universe: 48 Minutes Plus Adds". Such a great parody name for 60 Minutes

I liked Solo Leveling up until he became a god king, and the reveal is usually pretty satisfying. But once it turns into a powertrip, I'm bored

I think the first ~ 3 episodes of solo leveling are the only episodes I can consider good
