I want to watch the anime but I heard it sucks and it would probably just dissapoint me

but if you were going to watch a random previously-aired anime

there's a long list of shows I liked more

well it's mostly the fact that I have read the manga and I'd think it wouldn't live up to my expectations

I mean, it depends why you like anime I guess

the source is almost always going to be the "definitive" version of anything but it's fun watching things I like get animated

I can never decide which I like better and usually just default to "the source is always better"

but it's silly to have separate canons for anime/manga/LN

so usually the source is the most complete version of the whole story

one reason I do like source > anime is because of that

source the most complete whereas anime thends to be incomplete and skip things b/c they have to worry about a budget and jamming a story into a set amount of episodes

I feel like other mediums give a story more freedom

I don't think one has to stand on it's own

Konosuba is a great example

the franchise is an absolute trainwreck

there are 50+ different pieces of media, that contain narrative from the universe

but at the end of the day, despite the LN being the single most "comprehensive" story being told

I think the anime is the most enjoyable, per-capita

I think there are definatly animes that are better than their source material

but a lot of the time they don't give as much story

LN, 4 spinoff LNs, manga, 2 spin-off manga, anime, anime movie, live action movie, crossover show, recap movie, short stories, radio dramas, pc games, console games, mobile gachas

and I guess with konosuba I enjoyed the anime enough to branch out and look for more content

my point is, in Konosuba's case, the LN has 60% of the overall story (maybe less)

it's the plurality for sure

but I don't think it's crazy to say plenty of the in-universe media is more enjoyable; for what it is, than reading the LN
