I think it's all down to pacing

I don't think Black Clover's bad, and the manga is pretty good and all

I just can't get into shows with awful pacing

Even for series I like, let alone series I'm not super into

And I dare you to find me a modern shonen which doesn't having pacing issues

authors do fillers in mangas to keep sales coming while they bide time for actual plot ideas and color spreads
